Tips on How to Store Macarons
Macarons are the fashionistas of the baking world. Their spectacular hues and unique texture profile make them as delectable as they are beautiful. These delicate treats are notoriously difficult to master, but in the hands of a master confectioner, they’re utterly heavenly. Their airy texture comes from their egg white base and light almond flour. They don’t come out of the oven in perfect condition. They need to mature for at least 12 hours, but when you shop at Maison Pierre Marcolini, your macarons will always be in perfect condition. They should be eaten within five days and stored in a cool, odourless place or an airtight container.
How Long Do Macarons Last Unrefrigerated?
Most macaron ingredients last well outside the freezer at room temperature, but almond flour has absorptive qualities. While some confectioners store them for seven days, we suggest a “best before” date of no more than five days. The container you use will add or detract from your shelf life. A box container may dehydrate them or expose them to too much moisture. Always store your macarons in a single layer. Use an airtight container of foreign flavours. They should never be stacked.

How Long Do Macarons Last in The Fridge?
If you’re wondering how to store macarons in the fridge, plastic zip-lock baggies are an excellent solution. Lid condensation can soon turn your confection into a soggy, unpleasant mess, so we suggest you finish your macarons within a week.
How to Store Macarons with Filling
Buttercream filling is sensitive to the ravages of time. It usually keeps for two weeks but can degrade the texture of your shells. Curd fillings are equally prone to sogginess. You can keep your filled treats at room temperature for a day or in the fridge for three days. If you brought home our famous ganache recipes, you should enjoy them within two days.
Do Macarons Go Bad If Not Refrigerated?
Macaroons have a good shelf life at room temperature, but exposure to air can dry their shells. If you need more than a day of storage time, refrigerate them in airtight plastic containers.
How to Store Macarons Overnight
Fresh macarons need a little time to mature, so they’re often at their best a day after preparation. The shells can become soft, so make sure you keep your container in a cool place or on the bottom shelf of your fridge protected from excess moisture and foreign flavors. A box or plastic bag is less than ideal. The latter exposes your treats’ delicate exterior, leading to breakage.
How to Store Macarons in Freezer
Moisture and delicate ingredients don’t coexist well. While many people enjoy their confections after they’ve been stored in the freezer for months, we think they’re best served fresh. Their shells can grow wet during thawing, and their delicate flavors can be sullied. Curd can become grainy and thin in the freezer. Luxurious desserts deserve better care.
How to Store Macarons Long Term
Your fridge is a far better place for sugary treats than your freezer. You can flash freeze them on a baking sheet for a few hours, but storing them this way will destroy their fresh, delicate texture. We prefer ice storage.
